2013 Mercedes SL500 Digital Audio Upgrade
What a pleasure it was to work on this vehicle, a 2013 Mercedes SL500 digital audio upgrade. The customer is really into high end home hi-fi and wanted to replicate this in his vehicle.
Utilising digital technology, we were able to do this for him. An Audison DA 1Bit optical interface takes the audio source direct from the Mercedes factory stereo. This digital signal then goes into an Audison BitOneHD audio processor. This in turn wires straight into an Audison AV5.1KHD 5 channel amplifier and an AVQuattro 4 channel amplifier. This technology results in no loss of signal between the stereo and the amplifier, thus giving a very accurate representation of how the music sounds.
For the front staging we chose Audison Voce AV3.0 3″ midrange drivers and an AV1.1 tweeter pair. We were also to create custom panels for the doors to house a pair of Hertz Mille Legend 7″ midbass drivers. For low bass frequencies, an Audison AV12 12″ subwoofer was installed into a custom enclosure in the boot floor. All speakers are run fully active from all channels of the amplifiers.
As the customer listens to a lot of FLAC files, we were to install an Audison Bit Play so he can also store music on an SSD hard drive. The control for this hard drive is from the Audison DRC controller that is in the vehicles ashtray compartment.
